The 17th Judicial District Drug and Violent Crime Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional task force that is responsible for investigating drug dealers on the street corner up to the organized criminal enterprises operating in Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall and Moore counties in the middle Tennessee area. The Drug Task Force has been enforcing the state drug laws since 1988 when it was formed by then Governor Ned McWherter under the Drug Free Tennessee campaign. The task force also assist all local, state, and federal agencies.
The Drug Task Force is directed by a Board of Directors that consist of the District Attorney, Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs in Bedford, Lincoln, and Marshall an Moore counties.
The Drug Task Force receives part of its funding through the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant Program, which is a federal grant distributed by the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs. The remaining funding comes from fine money from convicted drug dealers, seizure and forfeiture of assets from drug proceeds.
